In celebration of 175 years of ceramic production by Viúva Lamego, the National Tile Museum presents an exhibition that reflects on the present and future of one of Portugal’s most important tile factories.

As part of the ChromAz - The Chromatic Trail of Portuguese Tiles project, the National Azulejo Museum is showing how the colours that characterise the chromatic palette of our tile heritage were produced up until the 18th century. Combining material characterisation with the study of historical recipes, this research focused on the production of pigments and the factors that influence the different colours and shades.
