Santos Simões Room

The room called Santos Simões, in honour of the Museum's founder, features works from the Masters Cycle (1690-1730), a period when Baroque aesthetics and blue-on-white painting were affirmed. Here you can admire works by outstanding painters from this period such as Gabriel del Barco, active between 1689 and 1703, António Pereira, active between 1683 and 1712, Manuel dos Santos, active between the beginning of the 18th century and around 1725, the monogramist P.M.P., active between 1713 and 1725 and Policarpo de Oliveira Bernardes (1695-1778). Two panels stand out, Baptism of Christ and Healing of a Blind Man, attributed to the Oliveira Bernardes workshop and classified as National Treasure.

This Portuguese production is preceded by panels by Dutch master Willem van der Kloet (1666-1747) such as The Dancing Lesson, also a National Treasure.
